Some accuse Texas man of winning local election by implying he’s black

HOUSTON — A man who lost a local election in Texas claims his opponent deceived voters by insinuating in a flyer that he was African-American, when in fact he is a Caucasian Republican.

KHOU 11 News in Houston reported that Dave Wilson shockingly beat out 24 year incumbent, Bruce Austin, in an election for a seat on the Houston Community College board.

Some accuse Wilson of misleading the surrounding community, which is primarily made up of African American voters, when his campaign sent out thousands of mailers that featured several photographs of African American people.

According to KHOU, another mailer states Dave Wilson is endorsed by Ron Wilson, a local African American politician.

However, the Ron Wilson his campaign was referring to is his cousin in Iowa.

Wilson reportedly won by 26 votes. Austin plans on calling for a recount, but it’s unlikely the electronic voting will net different results.
