SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — A mother and son were found dead outside their Virginia home on Sunday morning.
According to FOX 4 sister station WTVR, Viola Cox, 84, was discovered near the back steps of her home following an apparent fall down the steps. Her son, Douglas Cox, 60, was found on a trail which connected their home to a neighboring home. Investigators suspect Douglas may have suffered a medical episode as he ran to get help for his mother.
Their bodies had been left out in the cold with overnight temperatures dipping to a low of around 10 degrees.
“This is a tragic set of circumstances that led to a very terrible ending for both people,” Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeff Pearce told WTVR. “There was no forced entry into the house and no signs of trauma or violence to the victims.”
A neighbor discovered the mother and son just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday. There were no signs of forced entry into the home or violence towards wither victim.
