St. Joe hopes to cash in on weather, Chiefs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Businesses in St Joseph are hoping the nice weather will increase traffic to their stores this weekend.

Friday is the first day the public can check out the Chiefs Training Camp practices, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce have spent some $20,000 advertising the camp in towns like Omaha and Topeka hoping to draw a crowd.

The groups have put together pamphlets, fliers, and social media to spread the word about where to go and what to do. Bad weather hurt attendance last year but businesses are crossing fingers this year will be better with the forecast in the 80s all weekend long.

Many St. Joseph businesses, especially restaurants, are offering daily specials for visitors in town for camp. Many of those kinds of deals are being tracked and publicized on social media, like this Facebook page, set up especially for Chiefs Camp visitors.
