MAPLETON, Utah – A homework assignment at a junior high school in Utah was quickly rescinded when a parent complained that it was an invasion of privacy.

According to FOX 4’s sister station, FOX 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah, students were told to write down the type of medications in their family medicine cabinet. They were to list when the medications expire and if the medications are FDA approved.

One of the mothers posted the homework assignment to facebook and it has spread like wildfire on social media.

“Although it may be a good idea for parents to do an inventory of their medicine cabinet, I believe it is inappropriate for students to counsel their parents or report to the school what that inventory is,” said Onika Nugent, mother of a student.

“Sometimes we’re blindsided. We don’t know if a teacher is giving something out that we shouldn’t be doing,” said Lana Hiskey, Communications Specialist.

The teacher made the form herself and the district said it was not part of the Common Core curriculum, which became the basis of many social media comments.
