KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A locally-made app is providing easy travel around the Kansas City Metro.
The Kansas City Transportation Group is teaming up with z-Trip, a free app that allows customers to summon a private taxi with their smartphones. For a more luxurious ride, customers request one of 20 new Chrysler 300s.
z-Trip allows customers to pre-load their credit card information so that no money needs to change hands at the end of their ride. It uses their phone’s GPS technology to connect them with whatever ride they choose.
“They can watch their car drive to them,” Bill George, KC Transport Group CEO, said. “They can get in the car and give the driver their destinations and at the conclusion of the drive they simply exit the vehicle. Their credit card is charged and by the time they hit the door their receipt’s been mailed to them.”
For now z-Trip focuses on the core of the city and central parts of the Kansas suburbs, but George said they hope to expand to cover other areas as well.
