Teen Charged in Slaying of Developmentally Disabled Man

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old boy was charged with the shooting death of a developmentally disabled man in September. On Friday, prosecutors charged Landrain Miller with second degree murder in 38-year-old Timothy Riley’s death.

Prosecutors said Miller shot and killed Riley after he refused to hand over the cash in his pocket — $40 he had just earned working as a maintenance man. It was a crime that shocked many in Kansas City.

Riley was the grandson of Joyce Riley, who founded the 24th Street Non-Violent Marchers after the murder of another grandson nine years ago.

Prosecutors have asked that Miller be held on $150,000 cash-only bond.
