KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As police look for the gunman who killed a girl Friday night in a double shooting at 76th & Monroe, the crisis team has assembled to help students at Schlagle High School in Kansas City, Kan. deal with their classmate’s death.
When police arrived on the scene at about 10 p.m., Friday night, they found two shooting victims. Jalisa Reed, 16, a high school student at Schlagle High died on the scene.
Reed is the youngest murder victim of the year. She lived with her mom, dad, sister and two brothers in Kansas City, Kan. After attending a funeral for a close family friend, they went to visit friends who lived in an apartment in the area of 76th & Monroe in Kansas City, Mo. Jalisa’s mom says Jalisa got into an argument with a group of people inside a car while she was outside. Her mom says Jalisa walked away from the argument, as she taught her.
“Don’t stay there to stick around to see what’s going to happen,” Nicki Reed, Jalisa’s mother said she instructed her.
A short time later, Nicki Reed says the same car returned and opened fire.
A second victim, a woman in her 20’s was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She is reported to be in stable condition.
Jalisa’s mom said Jalisa loved all sports, especially volleyball and soccer, and was active in the Boys and Girls Club of Kansas City.
The family, along with all those who knew Jalisa are grieving and shocked.
“We do everything together and experience everything together as a family together,” Nicki Reed said.
