Blue Valley NW student dies in Overland Park accident

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A high school community is mourning the death of a 16-year-old student. Blue Valley Northwest opened its doors Wednesday night to allow students the chance to grieve the loss if one of their own.

The school sent out a letter to parents identifying Blake Rohrer as the victim of a deadly crash at 175th and Switzer that happened Wednesday afternoon.

The letter invited students who are grieving Blake’s death the chance to come and speak to counselors. A district spokeswoman asked for privacy to allow students a safe place to grieve. Overland Park police say the crash is under investigation, but early reports indicated that it appears speed was a factor in the crash.

That letter to parents said that Blake was very active in the school, taking part in activities like choir. The letter says their hearts go out to Blake’s family. The school also provided a crisis resource at this link.
