KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fans can’t wait to watch their teams battle it out in the Big 12 Tournament, but no one is more excited than local business owners who expect to make thousands of dollars in a matter of hours.

Paige Saultz has worked her fair share of Big 12 Tournaments at Duke’s on Grand, making more money in one week then some do in a month.

“It’s going to be crazy in here. We’re usually packed from open to close,” said Saultz. “Us servers make a lot of money. We bring home probably at least $500 a night. We bring home a lot.”

Dukes will bring in around $30,000 in sales per day during March Madness.

They have to double their staff just to keep up with crowd. An atmosphere fan Fred Liggett says can’t be matched.

“It’s just great to see so many people flood into my home town for four or five days. It is a big deal you only see once a year,” said Liggett.

While 19,000 people will be inside the Sprint Center watching the games and an additional 20,000 will be downtown.

“It’s really hard to find parking. There’s just herds of people heading down towards Power and Light,” said Saultz.

It’ll be hectic to say the least, but in the end $9,000,000 is expected to be put back into Kansas City businesses.  Keeping places like Duke’s on the map.

“Anytime people are coming back through the town traveling for concerts at Sprint Center, they know about us,” said Saultz.
