KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Families with a child in the hospital will have a new place to stay starting Thursday.
The third Ronald McDonald House is finally set to open. The grand opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
The Ronald McDonald House is a safe and free place for families to stay while their child is being treated at the hospital. While staying at the home, families are provided with free bedrooms, free showers and free food.
Construction for the $5.1 million home began a year and a half ago. The house has 20 bedrooms and private bathrooms.
With the new addition, the Ronald McDonald Houses will now be able to serve a total of 87 families per night.
During each of the past three years, the other two Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City turned away more than 1,000 people due to a lack of space.
The new home will be called the Wylie House in honor of Jack and Glenna Wylie, who made a generous donation to the campaign to build it.
Best of all, it’s close to Children’s Mercy, so families who stay here don’t have far to go to see their child as they receive medical care from the doctors.
The public is invited to attend the opening ceremony and take a tour of the new house at 2525 Cherry in Kansas City. Parking is available at 27th Terrace and Oak. Shuttles will be available.
