The crash, which involved three different vehicles, occurred as one vehicle that was heading northbound on MO-13 crossed the center line of traffic. That vehicle side swiped another and then hit a third vehicle head-on before it rolled down an embankment.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle which crossed the center line, Erin L. Hook, 20, of St. Joseph, Mo., and Jennifer N. Reeder, 19, of Springfield, Mo., as well as the driver of the vehicle which was hit head-on, Paul W. Stankus, 49, of Clinton, Mo., were all three pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle which was side swiped received only minor damage and the driver of that vehicle was not injured. The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this time.
Saturday night, an accident in Douglas County killed two people. Rodney Strickell, 53, of Wellsville and Dylan Strickell, 17, of Lawrence were in a car that police say they failed to stop at the intersection of U56 and Douglas County Road 1061. They were struck by an oncoming vehicle and ended up in a ditch, with their car upside down.
