Three-year-old KCMO boy grazed by bullet in drive-by shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A three-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet on Christmas Eve morning when someone opened fire on his house in a drive-by shooting.

The child named Anthony was standing in his family’s living room in their home on South Benton Ave., when the car drove by and fired at least a dozen shots.

Anthony was hit in the back of the head.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and did not need to admit him to the hospital.

“He heard glass crack, so they’re thinking when he heart that hand he turned, that is what saved his life,” said Elizabeth Thomas, his mother. “I picked him up and I saw his whole area really red and he’s saying it’s hurting and it’s burning him.”

The family said they have lived in the home for eight years and have never experienced any problems like this.

“Just the thought of him not being here. I don’t think I could’ve lived with that,” said Anthony’s father, O’Neil Thomas.

“Maybe about a good five minutes for me to realize what’s really happening and when I did, I just grabbed him and I started crying because my son could’ve been dead. And on Christmas Eve,” his mother said.

The family’s car was also shot up. Police are asking for information on the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
