HOUSTON, Tex. – A big rig driver may have had the upper hand in a gun versus knife fight, but his actions landed him behind bars. KHOU reports that Douglas Saintlouis was arrested and charged for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after shooting a man he found slashing his tires on Tuesday night.
Saintlouis reportedly was sleeping in his cab parked near his apartment complex because someone had slashed his tires on Monday night. He was awakened by a hissing sound and saw a knife-wielding perpetrator cutting his tires. That man fled when Saintlouis went to confront him.
KHOU reports that Saintlouis fired a warning shot and then gave chase and shot him in the buttocks near a church parking lot. That man is in stable condition after he was transported to a hospital and will not face charges according to another report because Saintlouis was not in fear for his life.
Then to his surprise, Saintlouis was arrested. He believed he was defending his property but the arresting deputies said that he made a mistake by chasing the tire slasher. Harris County online court records indicate that Saintlouis is being held in jail on a $30,000 bond and will appear in court on Thursday.
