TULSA, Okla. — An Oklahoma dentist may have exposed more than 7,000 patients to HIV and Hepatitis C, the Tulsa Health Department announced late Thursday.
Officials say Dr. Scott Harrington is being investigated after it was revealed he could have exposed patients to “infectious material,” after “numerous violations” of health and safety laws, KOKI-TV reported.
Investigators were tipped off about possible unsafe “maintenance, control and use of drugs on the premises” after a patient contracted Hepatitis B.
Harrington and his office voluntarily discontinued their practice when the investigation began, the station said. Patients from the last six years have been recommended for testing as a precaution.
The investigation is ongoing and Harrington has been fully cooperating with the authorities.
