Twin toilets at Sochi, Russia Olympic games has Internet awash with potty humor

SOCHI, Russia — Twin toilets. The idea alone is enough to give someone stage fright. But for some in Sochi, Russia, they’ll have a potty partner during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games — like it or not.

The Internet’s eyes were opened to this peculiarity when BBC reporter Steve Rosenberg went to use the restroom at the cross-country skiing and biathlon center where some of next month’s events will take place. Inside the restroom he found two toilets inside one stall.

He took a picture and tweeted it. (Story continues after embedded tweet.)

And faster than a five-star flusher, the picture — and bathroom fodder — quickly followed.

Some said twin toilets aren’t common in Russia, while others posted other pictures of communal commodes, calling them “tandem,” the name used to described President Vladimir Putin and his cohort Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, according to Yahoo News.

Because of increased security at the Sochi Games, some on the Internet joked the second toilet was for Russian security officers.

As for the Sochi organizing committee, they have refused to comment. The Sochi Winter Games kick off Feb. 7 and run through Feb. 23.
