SEDALIA, Mo. — Brian J. Young, 35, and Kenneth McGee, 21, both of Sedalia have been charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Andrew Myers, 16, in July 2015. Police say Myers was killed during a drug deal at 421 N. Missouri Ave..
According to one witness waiting in the suspect’s truck during the alleged drug deal, Young returned to the truck and claimed there were two black males inside the house armed with a .22 rifle and a double-barreled shotgun. The witness says Young told them the two men instructed Young and another man to drop the money and leave.
That’s when Young is accused of firing his gun, hitting Myers.
Prosecutors say it was McGee who directed Young and others allegedly seeking drugs to the address, under the guise of purchasing marijuana, when they claim his true intention was to rob Young of the money.
“During the commission of the robbery resulting from Kenneth’s coordination, Kenneth’s partner was shot and killed,” the probable cause statement says.
Because Kenneth McGee perpetrated a felony which caused the death of another, the prosecutor requested McGee be charged with 2nd degree murder. McGee faces additional charges of 1st degree robbery and armed criminal action.
