Children Sit in Backseat As Adults Die in the Front

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Police are investigating a gruesome double shooting and murder that left three young children who apparently witnessed the shooting covered in blood.

Police say they found 24-year-old Alyshia Alexander dead from gunshot wounds inside a car near 26th & Cypress on Tuesday afternoon. Jedediah Alexander, 25, was in the passenger seat and his wife was in the driver’s seat, while three children, all under the age of three, were in the backseat.

Police, who say that they are still trying to determine who shot who, are not calling this a murder-suicide at this time but say they aren’t looking for any suspects. According to authorities, the man and woman were reportedly separated, and one may have had a restraining order on the other.

“I just can’t believe that somebody can do that in front of their children, violence is just getting outrageous,” said neighbor Twonna Douglas.

“There’s nothing in this life for anyone to take anyone’s life,” said another neighbor, Marry Tanner. “You cant give it back, never get it back. Just hope it stops, all this stops.”

The children did not appear to be physically harmed. Officers found the children ages one, two and three-years-old sitting in the back seat with blood on them and covering their ears. The children are now with relatives.
