NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, England — Authorities in England say that an undercover teenager was able to purchase alcohol in a quarter of the shops tested while using an ID with the cartoon image of “Bobby Hill” from the animated program “King of the Hill.”
According to the report in The Daily Mail, six out of the 22 shops tested in the recent undercover underage alcohol investigation in Nottinghamshire checked the teen’s phoney ID but still sold him alcohol anyway.
The legal drinking age in the UK is 18. The fake ID with the picture of Bobby Hill listed his age as 17.
Mick Murphy, chairman of the Nottinghamshire Council’s Community Safety Committee, said that the undercover teen was 18 years of age, but he was still disappointed in how many shops accepted the fake ID.
“It is disappointing that around a quarter of the shops tested did not properly check the identification that they asked for before accepting it,” Murphy told The Daily Mail. “We are warning shops that we are considering using a child with fake ID following the results of this exercise.”
