KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Do you wear sunscreen everyday? A new video that has more than 10 million hits shows just how damaging the sun’s rays can be. It will make you think twice about ever leaving the house without sunscreen.
The video is called, “How the Sun Sees You.” It was produced with an ultraviolet camera and shows the damage the sun causes to skin and how sunscreen blocks out bad rays.
Dr. Molly Menser, DO with Sunflower Dermatology & Medical Day Spa in Riverside, said she’s thrilled to see the video going viral.
“I think any message that can be delivered to the public is an absolute fantastic way to really make people realize the effects of the sun on a daily basis,” she said.
According to Menser, the sun affects your skin in two ways; through premature aging and cancer.
“That message needs to be clear, and this video does a good job,” she said.
The Skin Cancer Foundation says over the past three decades more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined. It says 1 in 50 men and women will be diagnosed with melanoma during their lifetime.
