ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One organization is asking for the public’s help sharing a photo of a girl who died just over 40 years ago.
The photo, released by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), depicts what the child may have grown up to look like had she lived.
Photo credit: This image was completed by a Forensic Artist with the Miami Dade Police Department and depicts what the female may have looked like in life.
The girl was struck and killed by a vehicle in St. Petersburg, Florida in June 1973,
Investigators believe the juvenile, who was likely between the ages of 14 and 16 when she died, had just recently arrived in St. Petersburg.
“It is unknown where she is originally from but may have come from, traveled through, have family or friends in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida,” the NCMEC stated. “The female was using several alias names including Janice Marie Brock, Marie, and Maria and may have a birth date in the month of June.”
The NCMEC is asking the photo be shared by the public in hopes it will be seen by someone who knew her.
“If you could help share her photo, that would be great,” the NCMEC said. “The more eyes on the photo the better the chance we can identify who she was.”
Other identifying features of the missing girl include:
- Reddish brown hair approximately 12 inches long that would have come down around her shoulders and blue eyes.
- Freckles on her shoulders and three brown flat birthmarks on her back.
- Fingernails were very short from biting
- Left ear lobe was pierced. At one point both ears were pierced but the right ear had healed over.
- Had moderate scoliosis of the spine but she might not have been aware of this.
- No dental fillings were seen in her teeth.
- Front tooth was chipped, but it is unknown if the chip occurred prior to death or as a result of the fatal crash
