KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Diamond Jackson was shot the same night Tashari Nelson, 23 was shot and killed. She still has a bullet in her head to prove it.
She didn’t see for certain who was shooting. But she says there were at least a dozen witnesses and now Jackson and other family members are hoping someone will come forward for the sake of Nelson’s kids.
“I just tell them mommy’s in a better place she’s watching over us, she’s in heaven, so whenever they want to talk to mommy I tell them to blow kisses,” Davon Turner, the children’s father said.
Cimiya, Ciniya and Dinya, girls 6, 4, 2 say they miss their mom. They talked of her taking them to the park as they pointed her out in pictures.
Nelson was hanging out in the area of 36th and Jackson early Sunday morning when Jackson says she got jumped by a group of young women they’d been feuding with.
“It was girls fighting that’s what girls do sometimes, nobody had guns,” Jackson said.
Nelson called Turner to come get her, but he pulled up to gunfire.
“I didn’t even get a chance to step out the car, shots rang out I ducked and they said my baby mama was running across the street,” Turner said.
One of the bullets hit Jackson.
“I was shot right here in the top of my head and the bullet is still there,” Jackson points out.
Another hit Nelson in the head, but her injuries were much worse.
“She was like ‘Davon’ saying my name and I was saying, ‘baby we’ve got kids we’ve got to go home to,’” Turner said.
At a vigil and balloon release this week after her passing her children wore shirts saying “Justice For Mommy”
Jackson says the shooter was a man who came out of a house nearby. Police questioned one person, but so far have made no arrests.
Now the family is making a desperate plea for someone to come forward with information.
“If y’all know something you need to tell it because these babies ain’t got no momma,” Jackson said.
“I wake up every morning and they are asking for their mommy, how would you feel? This is all I got right here, they want justice for their Mommy,” Turner said.
The family is trying to raise money for Nelson’s funeral expenses and to support her children. They’ve planned a barbecue and fundraiser Saturday at Dunbar Park from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
