KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman faces multiple assault charges following a fight last week near an elementary school, prosecutors said on Monday.
Ladonna C. Newton, 35, has been charged with one count of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action in connection to the incident near Ingels Elementary School in the area of 116th Terrace and Food Lane in south Kansas City on Friday afternoon.
According to court records, witnesses told police that family members of Newton had been in a fight when Newton drove her vehicle into a crowd of people, striking a victim and dragging them into the parking lot before she drove from the scene.
Newton later turned herself in to police. According to the probable cause statement, Newton admitted driving into the group, but says that it was an accident because her foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator and that she didn’t know that she had struck anybody.
Prosecutors have requested a $70,000 or 10 percent bond.
