PLATTE CITY, Mo. — She wanted a tan, but in a Platte City fitness center she got that and a camera recording her every naked moment. A former employee of the Anytime Fitness Center near Higgins and Running Horse roads now faces a serious charge.
Police say on the night of January 19 a woman was inside the fitness center used a tanning room. Investigators say she soon learned a former employee of the gym videotaped her without permission.
That former worker is 25-year-old Daniel Hoskins, who is now charged with invasion of privacy. According to court documents, Hoskins admitted to police he placed a video recorder that looked like an alarm clock in the center’s only tanning room. The recorder captured footage of the woman fully nude.
Police say the victim is in her early 20s and a regular customer at the fitness center. She became suspicious, uncovered the hidden camera and later called police. Police say she didn’t want to talk to reporters, but they say surveillance cameras at the business caught the incident on tape.
When FOX 4 stopped by Hoskins’ home, no one answered the door. Police say the victim had caught on despite the camera being concealed.
“She’d seen the clock and seen the whole camera lens. I guess there was enough reflection inside that she recognized there was a video recorder,” said Officer Michael Reilly with the Platte City Police
The owner of the Anytime Fitness says Hoskins no longer works there. Hoskins heads to court on March 18 for a hearing in Platte County court.
