KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman found dead in a home on 59th Street has been identified as Natasha Lewis, 33. She leaves behind a five-year-old son.
Police investigators spent the first 12 hours on Wednesday investigating Lewis’ death in the 3800 block of 59th Street in Kansas City, Mo.
Police were called to the area shortly after midnight after a woman who lived at the home returned and found her door open. She thought someone had broken in. When police arrived they found Lewis dead inside. The two women were reportedly good friends.
Debbie Smith, the victim’s aunt, said her niece had recently been released from jail and was working to better her life.
“In the last year she kind of went off course, but that was still no reason for anybody to kill her,” Smith said.
Lewis’ death is the 91st homicide in Kansas City this year, three more than this time last year.
