Young Gunshot Survivor Back Home for Thanksgiving

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Orozco family of Kansas City had a lot to be thankful for this year, as their young son was able to return home from the hospital in time for Thanksgiving after surviving getting shot in the back.

Two-year-old Axel Orozco was seriously injured earlier this month when he was shot in the back while watching TV at home. A 14-year-old boy is charged with firing at least 10 shots into the home in what police are calling a gang-related shooting.

Doctors at Children’s Mercy Hospital had to remove Axel’s spleen and put a drainage tube in his stomach to help him heal – but just two weeks later, Axel is home and playing with his toys.

“It’s a very wonderful day because I’m very thankful for my baby’s life and for everything God has given men,” said Axel’s mother, Anna Orozco.

The holiday also marks a new beginning for the family, who on Monday will move into a new home, far away they hope from the violence that nearly cost Axel Orozco his life.

“This is the Thanksgiving we’re gonna remember for our entire life,” said Anna Orozco.
