KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dwayne Bowe’s attorney, Kevin Regan, issued a statement Wednesday regarding the Chiefs wide receiver, who will play in Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos.
“Please be advised that this office represents Dwayne Bowe. My investigation reveals that Dwayne Bowe is unequivocally, 100 percent innocent in this matter. We look forward to clearing his good name at our earliest opportunity,” Regan stated. “Mr. Bowe has long been a giving member of our community and remains committed to giving Kansas City his best on and off the field.”
“He is grateful for the support shown by the Chiefs fans and promises this incident will not be a distraction to his commitment to excellence on the football field,” continued Regan. “We will have no further comment on this matter at this time.”
The star wide receiver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance on Nov. 10 in Riverside, Mo.
On Wednesday Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said the decision to allow Bowe to play in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos is really not a decision at all. According to rule books, Bowe is eligible, however Reid would not elaborate further.
Bowe maintains he’s innocent of the charges against him, which include speeding and possession of a controlled substance, his attorney said on Wednesday.
In a the incident report, police stated the arresting officer found containers inside Bowe’s vehicle marked “medical cannabis.” Bowe told the officer the containers were not his.
The Chiefs remain the only undefeated team in the NFL this season after winning their first nine games. Media attention for Sunday night’s game is unprecedented for a regular season game. The Broncos, a one-loss team so far, is expected to be one of the Chiefs’ toughest matchups this season.
