D-Backs Blank Royals 2-0, Win Series

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals were shutout for the fourth time this season, after they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals outhit the Diamondbacks 7-4, but couldn’t muster any hits when it ultimately mattered. Kansas City (16-24, 5-17 home) went 0-7 with runners in scoring position. Royals center fielder Jarrod Dyson was caught stealing three times.

The D-Backs (19-23, 12-11 away) were able to win the game with two sacrifice RBI’s.

In the fifth, shortstop John McDonald laid down an RBI sac bunt to give Arizona a 1-0 lead. In the eighth, right fielder Justin Upton gave the D-Backs a 2-0 lead, after he scored CF Gerardo Parra on an RBI sac fly to right field.

D-Backs left-handed pitcher Wade Miley (5-1, 2.14 ERA) gave up no runs on six hits in 7 innings, striking out three and walking two.

Royals starter Nate Adcock (0-1, 2.33 ERA) gave up one run on four hits in 5 innings, fanning three and walking one.

Kansas City begins a nine-game road trip on Monday, starting with a three-series against the New York Yankees. Royals right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino (1-1, 1.93 ERA) starts against Yankees RHP Hiroki Kuroda (3-5, 4.50 ERA).
