MIAMI, Fla. – The situation looked bleak. The San Antonio Spurs held a five-point lead with only 28 second left to play in game six of the NBA Finals. The Spurs were closing in on another NBA title and some Miami Heat fans decided to get a jump on traffic.
Streams of fans vacated their seats before the Heat mounted a frenetic rally, tying the game at 95 on a Ray Allen three-pointer in the final seconds. For the fair-weather fans, what should have been a moment of euphoria surely turned to rage when they learned they would not be let back into the arena for overtime.
According to the Miami Sun-Sentinel, fans that left were banging on the arena doors to be let back in. The situation escalated to a point where police were called to handle the unruly fans. The Heat would go on to defeat the Spurs 103-100, forcing a winner-take-all game seven on Thursday night.
