Four Kansas City schools win football state titles

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City area was well-represented in this weekend’s high school football state championship games.

Blue Springs and Maryville completed perfect seasons and captured back-to-back state titles. The Wildcats (14-0) beat Rock Bridge 35-14 to claim their fifth state championship. The Spoofhounds pounded Seneca 50-28 for their second straight Class 3 title.

Lee’s Summit West rolled over Parkway Central 51-14 in the Class 5 final. The Titans (13-1) have won three state titles since the school opened ten years ago. Their only loss was to Blue Springs. Lawson fell to Lamar 42-0 in the Class 2 game.

On the Kansas side, Blue Valley survived a furious fourth quarter rally by Salina South and held on to win the 5A crown 27-26. It’s the Tigers fourth state title in the last 11 years. And Shawnee Mission East fell short of winning its first football championship. Derby beat the Lancers 28-21 in the 6A final.
