KU closes in on Big 12 title

LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 8 Kansas crushed No. 19 Texas 85 to 54 in Lawrence, padding their lead in the Big 12 to three, with four games to go in the regular season.

The Jayhawks can clinch at least a share of conference championship by beating Oklahoma Monday night in the Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks torched Texas with a torrid 32-to-five stretch in the first half. Joel Embiid blocked five shots in the first half, breaking the KU freshman record for blocks in the process. Andrew Wiggins fueled the run with 15 points. KU led at the half by 28. Texas managed to make only 20 percent of its shots in the half (6-29).

Wiggins finished with a game-high 21 points. The freshman will celebrate his 19th birthday, Sunday. KU (21-6/12-2) hosts Oklahoma on Big Monday.
