Lough makes Royals history: Four extra base hits in one game

Kansas City, Mo. — On his first day back with the major league ball club, Kansas City Royals second baseman Johnny Giavotella made quite a splash.

But it wasn’t as big as the one teammate David Lough made.  In a 9-8 win over the Minnesota Twins, Lough became the fifth player in Royals franchise history to have four extra base hits in one game.  All told Lough had three doubles, a solo homer, 16 total bases, and 3 RBI against the Twins.  His 8th inning homer gave the Royals a lead they would never surrender.

Giavotella had two singles and a double in the contest to go along with 2 RBI. The Royals wound up with a split of the four game series with the Twins.

The Royals now return to Kansas City where they get a day off on Monday, and open a six game home stand on Tuesday, with first place Cleveland first, then the Oakland A’s for the holiday weekend.
