Martin Accepts Head Coaching Job at South Carolina

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Frank Martin has agreed to leave Kansas State and become the head coach for the men’s basketball program at South Carolina. The announcement came in a news conference Tuesday morning.

Martin will replace Darrin Horn, who was fired two weeks ago after finishing the season with a 10-21 record, including going just 2-14 in the SEC.

Martin, who has led the K-State Wildcats to three straight, and four overall, NCAA tourney appearances in his five years in Manhattan, worked as an analyst for CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA tournament over the weekend, and denied that he had been in contact with South Carolina officials about the open head coaching job.

Martin has a career record of 117-54 in five years at Kansas State, including a 6-4 NCAA tournament record. He signed a five-year contract in 2010 that pays him $1.5 million a year, but also allows for a buyout if a new contract isn’t agreed to by June 1.
