Royals finish season with 4-1 win in Chicago

Chicago, IL – It was the finishing touch on what the Royals hope will be the last building block to a playoff season. The Royals wrapped up their 2013 regular season on Sunday, beating the Chicago White Sox 4-1 at U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday.

The win by the Royals came at the end of a season where they saw drastic improvement from last season. The Royals final record of 86-76 was 14 games better than last year, capped by the month of September where the Royals had a 17-10 record.

The Royals on Sunday were led by pitcher Bruce Chen who improved his record to 9-4. All-Star catcher Salvador Perez played first base for the Royals, collecting three hits that included a two run homer. Back-up catcher Brett Hayes also hit a two run homer.

The 86-76 record was the best for the Royals franchise since 1989. As of Sunday, there are 183 days left until the Royals open their 2014 regular season in Detroit against the 3-time defending Division champion Tigers.
