MANHATTAN, Kan. — It’s no dream- but it is a dream come true. For the first time in school history, K-State is at the top of the BCS standings. The Wildcats are now potentially just two wins away from competing for their first national title. And in the ‘Little Apple’ of Manhattan, Kansas, ‘Wildcat Fever’ is spreading!
“I don’t think I’ve been this excited probably ever,” said K-State Senior Courtney Schmitz.
“It’s just a really great time to be a student in Manhattan,” another student told us.
Purple Pride can be felt everywhere on and off campus in the college town. Students say the atmosphere is contagious.
“Very exciting, very exciting you see the smiles on everybody’s face, Facebook statuses, Twitter, it’s all about being number one in the nation,” said Junior Austin Davis.
Senior Whitney Unkefer said the entire K-State family is rallying around the team. “It’s so great to be able to get behind this football team that works so hard all the time,” she said.
Dean of Students Pat Bosco says it’s hard to put into words how K-Staters are feeling.
“It’s immeasurable what it means to a school like our school,” Bosco said.
Bosco says K-State is not just winning on the field. He said success on the turf translates to success outside of the stadium.
“We’ve had seven years of record enrollments, record fundraising,” he said. “You can’t pay for this kind of exposure all over the United States and all over the world. It’s immeasurable the impact of having the number one program and having a spokesperson like Coach Snyder,” said Dean Bosco.
Coach Snyder is a staple in nearly every conversation we listened in on. The Wildcats say they’re confident he’ll lead his team all-the-way.
K-State plays at Baylor Saturday night. Kick off is at 7 p.m. CT.
