KANSAS CITY, Mo. — “Smash and grab” break-ins are on the rise in many parts of the metro. And we’re not talking about burglars breaking into cars. Instead, the bad guys are smashing out windows of homes, opening the front door, and taking what they can.
The burglars hit a home near 36th and Bell in Kansas City, Missouri this week. According to folks in the area, it happened fast. Neighbors say they stole a television.
Police think the same people could be responsible for the smash and grabs happening across the metro. Detectives say keep an eye out for anything that looks suspicious and don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.
“From now on I’m going to make sure I have a license number and anything else when somebody who I suspect comes into our neighborhood and thinks they can bash in doors,” said Russ Duncan.
Police say flat screen TVs can be prime targets because they are light weight and easy to move. Officers suggest keeping your blinds closed so burglars can’t see what’s inside your home. Also, try to make it look like there’s always someone home. Again, call police if you see something suspicious.
