Following Rep. Todd Akin’s ‘legitimate rape’ comment, the fallout continues. This time in the form of a YouTube song by singer-songwriter Taylor Ferrera. The New York-based musician takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to defining what Akin referred to as ‘legitimate rape.’
If you missed what Akin said, On Sunday, Aug. 19, Akin told an interviewer at St. Louis FOX affiliate KTVI that women who are victims of ‘legitimate rape’ don’t get pregnant because their bodies have a way to “shut that whole thing down.”
In response, singer-songwriter Taylor Ferrera writes, “A lot of controversy over Todd Akin’s comments on ‘Legitimate Rape’ and the miracles a woman’s uterus can do when it happens. But how does the uterus KNOW when the rape is legitimate? Finally, someone with the answers–me.”
In her son, Ferrera pokes fun at what constitutes illegitimate rape: A little drunk? Illegitimate! Knew the rapist? Illegitimate! Married to the rapist? Husband’s privilege! And so on.
