KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Department of Transportation workers are now included in Missouri’s Move Over Law. Are the driver’s getting the message? FOX 4 did a ride along during rush hour on Wednesday to find out.
It appears some drivers are still getting used to moving over for MoDot which has at least one worker saying he’ll remain just as vigilant as usual.
“There’s really nowhere safe on the highway,” Snorgrass said.
Anthony Snorgrass spends his evening patrolling Missouri interstates helping people in need. Like people with flat tires. He says despite crews flashing their truck lights and putting out orange cones, some drivers won’t slow down or mover.
“They’ll actually come when we’re putting them out. it’s pretty frustrating because, you know they see you,”
Stop after stop, Snorgrass knows he could be putting himself in harm’s way. A new change to Missouri’s Move Over Law aims to keep workers like Snorgrass safe. The change went into effect Tuesday, adding department of transportation workers in with police and emergency service worker. That means if a MoDOT vehichle is stopped with its lights flashing, you’ll need to change lanes, or at least slow down if you’re unable to move. Which is one reason Snorgrass says he’ll never stop watching his own back at work.
“The one you stop looking, that might be the last time you take a look,” said Snorgrass.
Penalties for violating Missouri’s Move Over Law include a $1,000 fine and possible jail time.
