KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some high school football players are dodging more than each other during practice. They’re dodging dog droppings.
A volunteer with the Southwest Early College Campus High School football team said some neighbors who use the field as a dog park aren’t picking up after them.
John Mark Clifton is a pastor at nearby Wornall Baptist Church. He said the church helps out the team by providing refreshment and snacks. But Clifton said on the weekends, some neighbors ignore the signs to pick up their dog droppings.
“Just respect these kids,” Clifton said. “These are athletes. They’re working really, really hard against some amazing odds to be athletes, and to play football at Southwest. And so, respect them as you would any other field.”
School district spokesperson Andre Riley said they’ve received only two internal complaints last year, so they don’t consider it a major problem. Riley said they’ve contacted the neighborhood associations, who then let homeowners know they should clean up after their four-legged friends. But Riley does admit, it’s probably time to contact homeowners associations and issue the reminder again.
Some neighbors FOX 4 spoke with say their neighborhood association always reminds them to clean up after their pet.
