KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Blood supplies are critically low right now, and the Community Blood Center is asking you and all your family and friends to stop by Friday, Sept. 7, or early next week to donate. Those who wish to donate mush be at least 16 years old and weigh 115 pounds.
Officials at the CBC say blood supplies typically drop at the end of August because a lot of families are getting in their final summer vacations and kids are heading back to school. It’s a busy time in many people’s lives. But now that the Labor Day holiday has passed, they are asking donors to make time to stop by and donate.
Donating blood is easy and takes about an hour of your day. Besides the initial prick of a needle, it really doesn’t hurt. Plus you get free soda-pop and cookies afterward. Each blood donation will save the lives of at least two hospital patients. The blood collected by the CBC is sent off to 70 hospitals throughout Missouri and Kansas.
The blood center at 40th and Main in Kansas City, Mo., opens at 7 a.m. There are other five locations in Gladstone, Blue Springs, Topeka, St. Joseph and Overland Park. They open at 8 a.m.
