OSAWATOMIE, Kan. — Authorities say that an Osawatomie man died early Thursday morning after he was hit with a Taser while allegedly resisting arrest following a domestic disturbance.
According to the Osawatomie Police Department, officers were dispatched on a domestic disturbance call to a house in the 1100 block of Chestnut around 1:15 a.m. Police say that a woman had fled the home, and that a man, identified as 32-year-old Travis L. Maupin, was barricaded inside the home.
After additional officers arrived on the scene, police say that Maupin came out of the home to talk to police about allegations that he tried to strangle the woman. While emergency workers were attending to the woman, Maupin allegedly fled from the scene on foot before being taken down by officers who used a Taser to subdue him as he resisted arrest.
As EMS workers attended to Maupin, authorities say he “coded” and was taken to the Miami County Medical Center, where he later died.
The Osawatomie Police Departmant has turned control the investigation into Maupin’s death over to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
There is no word on the exact cause of Maupin’s death, or the identity and condition of the woman.
