“Prometheus” is not a prequel to “Alien.” Wink. Wink. What “Prometheus” is though, is a sci-fi masterpiece.
Director Ridley Scott flexes his cinematic muscle and the results are strong. Warning: “Prometheus” is tailor-made for hardcore sci-fi fans. If you aren’t, don’t be frightened. You just have to be willing to explore this fascinating slice of well-produced cinema of the highest order. But “Prometheus” isn’t an easy watch. It’s intense. It’s maddening. It’s brilliant. It’s frustrating. It throws sucka punches….And it completely satisfies.There are similarities to “Alien” but this movie can stand alone and maybe stand a second viewing. Yes, it’s complicated. Very! But when you are a team of space explorers searching for the origins of the universe, things tend to get tricky and a bit scary.The non-flashy 3D is technically on par with “Avatar.”A classic? Shawn thinks so…
Russ says “Prometheus” is a seriously flawed but compelling movie. Genuinely scary moments are mixed with plot flaws and cliches. Still, it’s the most visually impressive movie of the year. A ton of extras featurring all kinds of commentary from the director down to the grip, documentaries, screen test and alternate endings.

ROCK OF AGES

“Rock of Ages” is an over campy and uninteresting musical that is completely misguided and miscast, especially Tom Cruise. He’s ridiculously awful. The original musical is fun and full of energy. The adaptation is boring and flat. How do you kill the spirit of these great rock anthems? See “Rock of Ages” they do a terrific job making the metal light and the rock soft.
Russ says If the music of the late 1980s has a nostalgic hold on you, then “Rock of Ages” may be the disposable distraction you’re looking for. The real litmus test is one’s affinity for the music. If you like listening to karaoke versions of rock anthems like “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” then “Rock of Ages” may provide some big-hair escapism. Lots of extras… Mostly about the music and the era.
