KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Fire Department says two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a large apartment fire at Armour and Broadway Boulevard.
The fire was reported just before 7 p.m. at the Westport Central Apartments at Armour and Broadway Boulevard.
The fire started on the ninth floor and was mostly isolated to a single unit, according to deputy fire chief Jimmy Walker.
“What we have to be concerned with now is the water we used to extinguish the fire on the 9th floor, if that runs down to floors below it may impact the electrical services to the apartments directly below but that’s something we keep an eye on,” he said.
A dog was also rescued from the building.
Most residents of the building will be able to continue living there, however, the Red Cross has been called in to assist with temporary housing while firefighters work to determine the damage.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
