INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — An eastern Jackson County family says that they are still waiting for answers, two months after their 28-year-old son was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking down a country road.
Johnny Williams was killed on the morning of August 31st as he was walking home after seeking day labor with a sanitation company. He was struck by a beige Ford pickup truck, and eventually died at an area hospital of his injuries two weeks later.
According to his family, their calls to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office about the case have gone unreturned, and the copy of the police report on the incident has the name of the pickup truck’s driver blotted out.
“I don’t understand it at all,” said Alecia Williams, Johnny Williams’ wife. “I still have yet to be contacted by (the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office) at all. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m so close with John’s family, I wouldn’t have even known what had happened.”
The police report indicates that another truck, painted white, passed the incident as it was happening. Investigators are hopeful that the driver of that vehicle will step forward.
“There was a lot of follow-up that hasn’t been done,” said Jenny Williams, Johnny Williams’ mother. “Was there a white car? Did they see anything?”
