KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kansas City, Kan., police have been working nonstop since Saturday night to find the men who killed a Grandview man and torched his body inside his rental car. On Wednesday prosecutors filed murder charges against two men, but only one of them is currently in police custody.
Rafeeq Rahman, 32, also known as Howard Hickman, from Kansas City, is currently being sought by police. Authorities said he and 35-year-old Adam Smith of Kansas City, were involved in a drug ring with the victim, 62-year-old James Jackson of Grandview.
On Saturday night, a Kansas City, Kan., patrol officer smelled smoke near 2nd and Greeley and discovered a car on fire. They later found Jackson’s body inside the car. Wyandotte County prosecutors said Jackson was arrested the night before his death.
He was pulled over by a trooper outside of Topeka, who confiscated a large amount of cocaine from his car. He was released Saturday morning and then that night, after telling his partners he no longer had the drugs, prosecutors say they killed him.
Jones is being held on a million dollars bond on charges of murder, arson, kidnapping and drug dealing.
Rahman has been charged with the same crimes but is not yet in police custody. If you have any information, call the TIPS Hotline at 816.474.TIPS or text 274 637 and include the code TIP 452 in the message.
