LOS ANGELES — After overcoming a hefty deficit late in the game, the UCLA Bruins forced overtime and edged the seventh-ranked Missouri Tigers 97-94 at Pauley Pavilion on Friday night.
Missouri junior guard Phil Pressey and UCLA freshman phenom Shabazz Muhammad both turned in incredible performances. Pressey finished with 19 points and 19 assists, setting a school record for most assists in a single game. Muhammad finished with 27 points.
The game was tied 47-47 at halftime. Missouri (10-2, 0-1 away) went on a 12-0 run late in the second half, and led 86-77 with just over four minutes left to play.
UCLA (10-3, 8-1 home) answered with a 9-0 run to tie the game with 1:43 to play.
Muhammad sank a pair of clutch three-pointers to help drain the Tigers in OT. Pressey and senior forward Laurence Bowers both missed three-point attempts on the last possession of OT, and the Bruins held on for the win.
The Tigers outrebounded the Bruins 42-32, but had a whopping 17 turnovers to the Bruins’ 6. Both teams shot over 47% from the field.
Missouri takes on Bucknell next Saturday at Mizzou Arena.
