OLATHE, Kan. — A power outage affecting about 2,000 Westar customers in Johnson County, Kan., forced the Olathe School District to activate its alternative plan for students on Thursday. Thankfully, the problem was resolved before the complicated process began.
Three schools lost power: Mission Trail Middle School, Prairie Center Elementary and Forest View Elementary.
A manager with the First Student busing company told FOX 4 that all students would report to their normal schools. Then, after all students were in the schools, district officials would get an estimate from on when the power might be restored. If necessary, buses would then transport students to alternate schools if power could not be restored quickly.
Power was restored at about 8:30 a.m. and school could begin as normal. A district public relations assistant told FOX 4 that the schools did have emergency lights.
