FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Police say a Florida woman has been arrested on a child neglect charge after drinking so much she passed out a friend’s house — leaving her 9-month-old and 3-year-old home alone.

It happened last week in Fort Pierce, Fla., after grandparents of the kids came home to find the toddlers alone and their mother nowhere in sight, WPBF-TV reported.

According to police reports, she went to her home to put the children to sleep twice before finally returning to her friend’s, where she passed out after a long night of drinking.

Alisha Esch told police this had never happened before and that she had a drinking problem and wanted help, the station reported.
