KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Good news for metro job seekers. Home Depot will soon hire 600 workers in the metro and 80,000 nationwide.

The home improvement chain said its surge in seasonal hiring is a 14 percent increase  over last year. More than half of the spring hires a year ago landed permanent jobs with the company.

Spring is Home Depot’s busiest selling season and for those who like to stay busy, the company said their jobs can be a lot fun.

“I think right now the economy has proven that it’s doing better,” said Diane Roth, assistant store manager. “People are shopping. We have now even online services available. There’s a lot of convenience as well, so foot traffic has been steady — doing very well.”
