When’s the last time you went through your makeup bag and got rid of old an expired products? Last week? Last month? Last year? Jamie Reed, Beauty Specialist with Beauty Brands, helped us “spring clean” our makeup bags and make way for new season trends.
Her tips:
1. Replace mascara every 3 months. As the product is exposed to air, it will start to grow bacteria. Also, the product starts to dry out, so you are not getting the same results you would get with a new tube. A good tip is to put a small sticker on your mascara with the date you opened it so you are reminded to pick up a new tube.
2. Clean your makeup brushes. This should be done weekly. You can use a spray cleaner like these from Japonesque or Glominerals. At least once a month, do a deep clean with a gentle cleanser like Philosophy Purity Made Simple. You want to make sure you hold the brush with the bristles facing downward and dry them flat so water does not get into the ferrule because that will loosen the glue and your brush will start to shed. If your brush is shedding, this is a good indication it’s time to purchase a new brush.
3. A new season brings on new skin concerns so the foundation you used in the winter months may not be right for your skin in the spring and summer months.
4. Update your spring look with a fun, bright or bold lip color. Lipsticks and highly pigmented balms are making a huge comeback.
