WASHINGTON — A single mother in Washington, D.C. said she was fired — without warning — for selling Girl Scout cookies.
Tracy Lewis said she was called into her boss’ office on Feb. 18 at Bon Appetit Management Company, which provides café and catering services to corporations, colleges and universities and operates American University’s convenience store and dining programs. She said she was told she would be fired for selling her daughter’s Girl Scout cookies from her food cart on campus.
Lewis told WTTG-TV she had previously sold cookies for the last three years without reprimand.
“I had the cookies on a cart, and I would never ask anyone to buy them, ” Lewis told MyFoxDC.com. “But, if they wanted to buy some, I would sell them.”
Lewis’ manager claims in a termination letter that Lewis committed “gross misconduct by soliciting,” and “operating a personal cash business selling Girl Scout cookies over the counter which violates company policy.”
American University told FOX 4 it does not have authority over personnel decisions regarding employees of Bon Appetit.
